Can olive oil help improve digestive issues?

 

Over 60 million people in the United States report dealing with digestive issues. 

 

Are you one of them? 

 

If you deal with any digestive issues, you might wonder if olive oil can help. Here’s great news: Yes, it absolutely can!

 

Two tablespoons of high quality olive oil daily (with food or straight out of the bottle) will decrease some of the symptoms and even the root causes of digestive issues. If you prefer, you can add a squeeze of fresh organic lemon juice and a pinch of authentic sea salt to your daily 2 tablespoon shot.

 

So, what is the gastro-intestinal system? It is the largest endocrine organ in the body and consists of a series of hollow organs: mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus. It also includes solid organs: liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Nice.

Once you swallow your food, your body takes over by secreting digestive enzymes and other compounds that help break down the food in your stomach and prepares those nutrients to transport throughout your body via your intestinal tract. Carmen Ramirez-Tortosa and Parveen Yaqoob, authors of "Olive Oil and Health," ...olive oil encourages the production of peptides, which support healthy digestion and aid in nutrient absorption. Regular consumption of olive oil will keep your gut working efficiently by taking what it needs for good health and eliminating the rest in your waste.”

 

Olive oil, when digested, coats the protein, carbohydrate and fat molecules and aids your body in breaking down food. When the food hits the intestines, the nutrients from the food you’re eating can be absorbed more efficiently. Olive oil also encourages your intestines to absorb more of the vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat, which makes it beneficial for individuals suffering from digestive disorders, reports the 2004 study in "Gracias y Aceites."

 

One of the most common digestive issues with  IBS is inflammation. By taking olive oil on an empty stomach will soothe and coat the stomach and the lining of the intestines. The absorption of the food and their nutrients through the intestines is also enhanced, all from just a little bit of truly extra virgin olive oil.

 

Another common digestive issue is acid reflux. When you consume VERITAT EVOO (fat), you are more satiated and consume less overall food.
